Financial Institutions Commission

Mehak Sikka (Palau, Financial Institutions Commission, FIC) Mehak converted a complex excel spreadsheet application into a MySQL database application for the Financial Institutions Commission, the banking regulator in Palau, an island country location in the western Pacific Ocean. The Financial Institutions Commission, the banking regulator of Palau, regularly receives summarized banking records from the five banks on the island and consolidates it on excel. Six years of banking information on excel made it difficult to segregate the data and conduct additional analysis. Foreign Investment Board

Max Kornyev ( Palau, Foreign Investment Board, FIB) Max installed a new document management solution (DMS) for the Foreign Investment Board (FIB), an organization that ensures that foreign investment truly works for the Republic of Palau, an island country located in the western Pacific Ocean. The Foreign Investment Board (FIB) vets incoming foreign investment in Palau and audits already established foreign-owned enterprises for regulatory compliance. These processes result in a vast amount of paper documentation, creating inefficiencies in storage and retrieval. The Belau Medical Clinic’s thirty-eight employees used computers and took advantage of a broadband internet connection, but the computers were not consistently backed up nor were they connected to a local office network. Patient records are on paper, and the clinic is interested in moving to electronic record storage. The CMU student selected, installed and configured a Windows Server Essentials 2016 operating system and connec

Sudipto Das (Palau, Financial Intelligence Unit, FIU) Sudipto worked on the systems that analyze suspicious or illegal financial activity for the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), a government organization that detects, disrupts and deters money laundering and terrorist financing activity in Palau’s banking system. The Financial Intelligence Unit’s (FIU’s) process for collecting bank transactions and conducting risk analysis required the Senior Intelligence Analyst to manually review transactions in order to assign a risk level to each transaction set. The CMU student enhanced the existing system with a rule-based ‘expert’ model, based on the Senior Analyst’s manual logic, to automatically

Chimbote Maternidad

Cesar Ruiz and Carolina Quintana (Chimbote, La Maternidad de Maria Hospital) La Maternidad de Maria grew over fifty years from a simple maternity hospital in 1966 to a full-service hospital with nine departments and 24/7 services.
